BMW Compact Electric will be launched in 2013

The mysterious new project from BMW has revealed some more information. Known as Megacity, the proposal is a compact electric vehicle urban brand of low consumption and emissions. Its launch is scheduled for 2013 under a new brand created by the Germany group.

The Megacity will have the passenger cell made of carbon fiber and aluminum chassis, with extensions that provide for the construction of longer versions of the car and can carry up to seven passengers. The compact will consist of only an electric motor that transmit traction to the rear wheels. The battery is placed under the floor to save space and keep the center of gravity low.

BMW is considering offering a version with 1.0 petrol engine, positioned in front. All development is being done with the aid of the Mini, Compact English brand which also belongs to BMW, and has gained experience in the development of electric car with the Mini E.
