Nissan Leaf Electric Car Begins the Production

Production of the Nissan Leaf Electric Car is in Nissan’s Oppama, Japan. The car will be useable in Japan and the United States in December 2010. For some European countries, the premiere is scheduled for early 2011.

The Oppama plant has an yearly production capacity of 50,000 units annually. “This is a significant milestone not only for Nissan and Renault-Nissan Alliance, but also for the entire auto industry,” said Chairman and CEO of Nissan, Carlos Ghosn.

The Japanese company also stressed it will start manufacturing the electric Leaf in the United States, in the unity of Smyrna (Tennessee) in late 2012. From 2013, the forecast is that the Sunderland plant in the UK, also produces the model. According to Nissan, the Smyrna plant will have yearly production capacity of 150,000 units, while Sunderland will have a capacity of around 50,000 units per year for Nissan Leaf Electric Car.
